When John Rambo's niece travels to Mexico to find the father that abandoned her, she finds herself in the grasps of Mexican sex traffickers. When she doesn't return home as expected, John learns she's crossed into Mexico and sets out to get her back and make them pay. Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission.
Somehow something went wrong with the formula of the Rambo movies and the confusion shows in the end product. The movie wastes a lot to time on a pointless, trite, melodramatic, uninteresting first half, followed by another quarter of the movie that makes no sense for a tactical genius such as Rambo, and finally we get to the kind of good part which is promptly ruined by no longer being Rambo but must now compete with John Wick.
